ABOUT THE ROLE

As an Engineering Manager at Tide, you’re an experienced Full Stack Engineering Leader with strong people-management skills, comfortable operating at scale and driving impact through well-designed platforms. In this critical role, you will lead a cross-functional engineering team (comprising Backend, Mobile, and Web engineers) and partner closely with Product Management to own and lead our global In-Person Acquiring products. In-Person payments currently account for a significant majority (65%+) of our Acquiring revenue in key markets, making this a highly visible, high-impact domain. You will own the technical direction and end-to-end execution of systems that power our in-house ePOS solutions, Tap to Pay technologies, cross-platform mobile apps, and complex pricing engines. You will oversee the maintenance of highly reliable live products while leading the architectural strategy for critical third-party vendor integrations and hardware partnerships. Additionally, you will drive major platform transformation initiatives and lead the engineering scaling of localized payment networks (such as QR/UPI) across international markets, alongside rollout toolkits for our European expansion.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • Full Stack Leadership: Proven track record directly managing, coaching, and developing cross-functional teams of Backend, Mobile, and Web engineers.
  • Technical Depth T-Shaped Leadership: A platform- and tech stack-agnostic engineering leader who is an expert in at least one core domain/platform (e.g., backend or mobile), with the proven ability to translate those core software engineering principles to guide, mentor, and architect solutions across other platforms in a T-shaped leadership model. Extensive experience building robust applications, server-side engineering, mobile app deployment architecture, and scalable system design.
  • Domain Expertise: Experience in FinTech, specifically within Acquiring, In-Person Payments, ePOS systems, or payment gateway integrations is highly desirable.
  • Architecture Scale: Experience engineering scalable, reliable solutions in a cloud-native environment, managing microservices, and implementing RESTful APIs and event-driven systems.
  • Partner Integrations: Proven experience designing systems that seamlessly integrate with complex third-party vendors, hardware providers, and external payment networks.
  • End-to-End Ownership: Full ownership of technical solutions across their entire lifecycle, championing engineering best practices from development and testing to production deployment and monitoring.
  • Strategic Execution: A technical, hands-on leader who can guide architecture decisions, translate complex product strategy into reliable platform solutions, and communicate technical concepts seamlessly to stakeholders.

OUR TECH STACK

  • Java, Spring Boot and JOOQ to build the RESTful APIs of our microservices (but we welcome people who are used to any strongly typed general purpose programming language!)
  • Event-driven architecture with messages over SNS+SQS and Kafka to make them reliable
  • Primary datastores are PostgreSQL via RDS or Aurora (we are heavy AWS users)
  • Docker, Terraform, ArgoCD and, EKS provided by the Cloud team to run the platform
  • DataDog for monitoring, observability and automated SLOs
  • GitHub, Semgrep and solid testing to power the CI/CD pipelines - new joiners are encouraged to have something deployed to production in their first week
  • Angular on Web, Flutter for our mobile app, but from time to time we use Swift and Kotlin
  • Fivetran/BigQuery/Looker for the BI insights and Python/FastAPI/Faust + some ML libs for the automated decisioning and risk management
